Looper is a science fiction, action film that stars Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Emily Blunt. Looper was released last year (2012) and was a success at the box office. Looper’s story focuses on Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who is a “looper.” Loopers are hired guns who kill targets that are sent from the future. Joe is becoming rich from his job and is high on life (sometimes literally). Joe is starting to recognize that other loopers are starting to close their loops, which means they are killing their future selves for a huge amount of gold and at least 30 more years to live. Joe heads out to the field where he kills his targets and while he is waiting, he notices his target is not on time. Then the target appears, it’s the future Joe. The mob wants Joe to close the loop, but Joe hesitates and it results in the escape of his older self, which is not good for Joe.
Looper is a fantastic, science fiction film. The story and plot revolve around time and it makes for an interesting movie concept. Rian Johnson creates an interesting view of the future as his story takes place in 2044 and the setting features new things such as a flying motorcycle, but also still has elements of our present time with cars from our time and fashion that we have in the present. Rian Johnson’s direction of the film is fantastic and the camera angles he provides goes well with what’s going on in the story. For example, Joe happens to be a junkie and when he gets high early on in the film, Johnson turns the camera angle upside down and turns it in a 360-degree angle to help you feel the effects of the drug that Joe has taken. If you are a fan of the action genre, Looper can satisfy your needs with gun fights and different weapons featured. Now, the film is rated-R so if your against that, I wouldn’t watch it. Here’s a clip from Looper that shows the mob sending a target to Joe. The mob’s target happens to be Joe from the future and a showdown ensues between the two.
